Hi,

I seem to be unable to raise my mailsail to the top of my mast, it hoists to within 8-12 inches and then refuses to go further, even when brute force is applied.

I have had the mast down to look for anything that the halyard may be catching on, but nothing doing, the sail track is clear and true.

If the sail is not attached then the bare halyard will go the mast head without issue.

Any ideas from anybody as to what thje problem may be.

Many Thanks

My guesses are:-
- Catches round jib halyard when under tension. Remedy release Highfield or run jib halyard to and fro.
- Soft eye on main catching on obstruction or looping over the end of a pop rivet.
- On sleeved mast inner sleeve can get a V shaped groove worn in it caused by oil on wire picking up sand and grit. wire or more likely Talurit gets caught. Sometimes possible to release by pushing halyard towards the centre of the mast with a screwdriver. Remedy take to 1st Mark at Golborne. Both our club boat masts had this problem We were told to use an oiless lubricant in the furture.
- Track narrower at top. If it is can be eased with a brick chisel. Sounds brutal but OK if done carefully.

Hope one of these helps or someone else comes up with the solution.

Tim
