Hi,

Just found that one of my Enterprise knees is rotten and has disintigrated, problem being that its one that my shroud plates is fixed to (no sailing till its fixed .

I need to fabricate a new one, but am no expert in wood types. Can anybody give some advice on the wood I need to use and where I might buy it?

Many Thanks

Looking at mine (which is stipped back at present) they are made of mahogany.
As the knees are not that big you could try for an offcut from a timber merchant who deals in hardwoods and offer him a pint or you could find an antique restorer or Joiner who would use mahoganhy and see if he would sell you a bit. If these fail see if there is a local timber auction at a market (but you would most probably end up with a lot more than you need)
If you cant get a piece the right size you could try laminating several pieces together with epoxy and then shaping it.

Hope this helps

Chris
