Browsing WLYC site and noticed that they have received a complaint from the GP14s that GPs were not being sailed off their RYA yardstick (1127 !!!) The WLYC reply was as follows:-
Taking all the circumstances (of numerous years) into account, we have decided to make a slight adjustment to the Lark handicap for the 2007 event, and sail the race with the following yardstick numbers.
GP 1000 (no change)
Enterprise 1000 (no change)
Lark 995 (1000 in 2006)
It has been suggested that in departing from the "official" Portsmouth Yardstick Numbers we are treating the GPs unfairly. However, in reaching our decisions, we are guided by the notes to the Portsmouth Yardstick Scheme which include....
"The [published] numbers are therefore an average and thus, particularly with dinghies, may not necessarily be applicable to any one club. Accordingly, if after racing, a listed Portsmouth Number appears to be inequitable, a club should not hesitate to change the number......."
My view is that the GPs are coyboys off the same handicap as us never mind 1127. What do you think?
How about using the RYA quote to get your club to change the Ent. handicap and ensure fair racing for all.
